Servant Leader Sponsorship Grant

When S.O.S. Girls was instituted in 2010, it was always the desire of the Board of Directors to provide financial assistance to those who have a desire to minister to others with their time and talent.  In keeping with the S.O.S. Girls motto of encouraging young women to live with a servant's heart, Sisterhood Of Servants is pleased to announce its inaugural S.O.S. Girls Servant Leader Sponsorship Grant.  This $1000.00 monetary gift will be awarded on Arpil 3, 2017 to a young woman from the United States, age 16-25, that demonstrates servant leadership skills in her local community and abroad.  Preferred status will be given to current and former members of S.O.S. Girls.  Applications will be accepted from February 1, 2017 - March 15, 2017.

The Sponsorship Grant is designated to subsidize the costs associated with the applicant's
involvement as an unpaid volunteer in the following capacities:

1.  serving others as a camp counselor or assistant
2.  serving others on the American or foreign mission fields
3.  serving others as a community outreach leader with 501c3 non-profit organization registered with the Internal Revenue Service of the United States.

These volunteer activities should be completed by December 31, 2017. Grant funds may not be used to cover the costs of general camp fees or expenses associated with being a member of a sports team, dance troupe, cheerleading squad, drama club, or pageant participant.

Members from the Sisterhood Of Servants Board of Directors will serve as the confidential selection committee.  Their decision will be final.  The winner and her family will be honored and announced formally at the Sisterhood Of Servants annual spring banquet to be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at Trinity Baptist Church.  Thank you for your interest in the S.O.S. Girls Servant Leader Sponsorship Grant, and thank you for serving.

2017 Winners

Darshay (Shay) Smith is a Missions major at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida.  She plans to spend this summer as an intern with Youth Hostel Ministries, based in Amsterdam.  Shay will have the opportunity to lead bible studies and interact with victims of sex trafficking in addition to fulfilling her duties as a member of the Youth Hostel staff.
In Shay's Own Words:
"I love community, and I love being a part of it.  I also want to be pushed out of my comfort zone by being thrown into something that I may have no clue about, but trusting that God will lead me through the whole thing.  My friends are calling me crazy for wanting to do this, but I don't care.  I'm tired of being comfortable.  I want to reach the lost.  I want to give my time to those who are hurting and in need of a savior.  I feel as if I would be in the right place doing so with the Hostel Ministry."

Charity Denny is majoring in Elementary Education at Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, Florida.  She will be interning with Priceless Grace Ministries in Port Au Prince, Haiti.  Charity will be dividing her time among several outreach ministries including working at a malnutrition clinic, an orphanage, and a local Christian school.

In Charity’s Own Words:  “I have never been on a mission trip before, but I feel God calling me into full time missions in Haiti.  My heart is to show people a love they have never known and to introduce them to Jesus.  I cannot get through a day without being completely burdened for the people of Haiti and wishing I was there.  I cannot wait to go serve Jesus, and show others how wonderful His love is!"
